Why Myofascial Release?

Myofascial Release Treatment |MFR|, is a hands-on therapy which can release tightened connective tissues throughout the body. It has a healing effect on those tissues in addition to relieving neuromuscular pains and restoring ranges of motion.

Fascia is a loose connective tissue, while bone is a dense connective tissue. Fascia surrounds every structure in the human body as a 3-dimensional web from top to bottom and from inside to outside, without interruption. Bones, tendons, nerves, brain, spinal cord, muscles, heart, lungs, visceral organs, urogenital organs, blood vessels, joints, and even the cells are all coated with this connective tissue. Additionally, the superficial fascia which is made up of 2 layers, covers the entire body from the base of the skull to the tips of the fingers and toes. Deformity of the fascia can occur due to trauma, scarring, inflammation, repetitive stress injury, compensations, stress, etc. These result in a binding down effect which places pressure and tension on muscles, nerve ends, and organs which results in pain and other dysfunctions all over the body.

Gentle traction and release of pressure allows the body to return slowly to it's normal postural state. Myofascial release uses a number of gentle release techniques as taught by physical therapist, John F. Barnes.
